3. In 1825, the Georgia Legislature passed a bill to establish the University of Georgia’s Medical Department. The department was the state’s first medical school and is now part of the Augusta University health system.

4. On this day in 1956, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was indicted for conspiracy to boycott Montgomery, Alabama’s bus system. The boycott was sparked by Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat on a city bus.

5. In 1998, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta hosted Super Bowl XXXII between the Denver Broncos and the Green Bay Packers. The Broncos won the game 31-24, giving quarterback John Elway his first Super Bowl victory in his fifth appearance.
