1. On February 4, 1822, the first session of the Territorial Legislative Council was held in St. Augustine. The council was the precursor to the Florida legislature, which eventually became the official governing body of the state.

2. In 1938, on February 4, baseball legend Hank Aaron was born in Mobile, Alabama. Aaron would go on to have an incredible career, including breaking Babe Ruth's home run record in 1974 while playing for the Atlanta Braves.

3. February 4, 1864 saw the Civil War battle of New Smyrna Beach take place, between Union and Confederate forces. The battle was part of the larger campaign to capture Florida and establish Union control in the state.

4. On February 4, 1971, the iconic Spanish-style Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel has played host to countless famous guests over the years, and remains a popular Florida landmark to this day.

5. In 2004, on February 4th, NASA's Spirit Rover successfully landed on Mars. The rover was part of a mission to explore the red planet and gather data on its geology and climate. The mission was deemed a success, and Spirit remained active on Mars until 2010.
