3. In 1932, Kentucky Governor Ruby Laffoon signed the first state sales tax law in the United States. The 3% tax was enacted to help fund the state's budget during the Great Depression.

4. On February 4, 1945, African American singer and activist Paul Robeson performed at the 5th Street Baptist Church in Louisville. Robeson was an important figure in the Civil Rights Movement and used his platform to advocate for racial equality and social justice.

5. In 1958, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) founder Colonel Harland Sanders received his first franchise from Pete Harman in Salt Lake City, Utah. This marked the beginning of KFC's global expansion and the birth of one of Kentucky's most famous exports.
