3. Atlanta's first African-American mayor, Maynard Jackson, was born on February 6, 1938. Jackson was elected in 1973, and during his tenure he helped to build the city's airport into one of the busiest in the world.

4. In 1961, the Georgia state flag was changed to include the Confederate battle emblem. This controversial move was later reversed in 2001, when a new flag design was adopted that did not include the emblem.

5. On February 6, 1996, the XXVI Olympic Winter Games opened in Atlanta, Georgia. The games were marked by the bombing of Centennial Olympic Park, which killed two people and injured over 100 others. Despite the tragedy, the games were widely considered to be a success, with many memorable moments and accomplishments.
