1. In 1773, the Delaware Assembly approved a law banning the importation of slaves. It was the first such law in the country, and set a precedent for other states to follow in the coming years.

2. On February 9, 1914, the DuPont Company introduced the first polyester fabric, which they trademarked as "Dacron." The material was initially used for airplane wings, but went on to become a popular textile for clothing and other applications.

3. In 1965, the Delaware Memorial Bridge opened to traffic. The suspension bridge spans the Delaware River and connects Delaware and New Jersey, and at the time of its opening was the world's longest twin suspension bridge.

4. On February 9, 2003, the Delaware 87ers won their first NBA G League game, beating the Fayetteville Patriots 101-93. The 87ers are a minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, and have since become a popular fixture in Delaware sports.

5. In 1789, the Delaware General Assembly voted to ratify the U.S. Constitution, becoming the first state to do so. Delaware's role in the ratification process was crucial, as it helped to convince other states to follow suit and establish the fledgling United States.
