1. In 1861, a meeting was held in Frankfort to determine Kentucky's stance on secession from the Union. The state ultimately chose to remain neutral in the Civil War.

2. In 1904, the prestigious Kentucky School for the Deaf was founded in Danville. It is still in operation today, providing quality education to deaf and hard of hearing students.

3. On January 10, 1923, the Kentucky State Capitol building in Frankfort was destroyed by fire. The current Capitol building was completed in 1910 and still stands today.

4. In 1946, the first annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast was held in Frankfort. The event has become a longstanding tradition and is still held every year during the Kentucky State Fair.

5. On January 10, 1986, the Kentucky Historical Society opened its new state-of-the-art museum in Frankfort. Today, the museum contains exhibits and artifacts showcasing the rich history of Kentucky and its people.
