4. January 10, 1974, was a dark day in Wyoming history. A massive explosion at the Wilcox Coal Mine in Carbon County killed 29 miners and injured 11 others. The tragedy prompted widespread reforms in mine safety regulations.

5. In 1913, the Cheyenne State Leader newspaper reported that a group of 14 men had been trapped in the snow for 72 hours on Laramie Peak. The men were ultimately rescued and brought to safety, but their ordeal underscored the dangers of Wyoming's harsh winter weather.
