4. In 1971, a fatal flash flood occurred in the town of Hertford, North Carolina. Heavy rainfall caused the Perquimans River to overflow, resulting in the deaths of 11 people.

5. On January 11, 2013, the North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team defeated the Florida State Seminoles 77-72 in a thrilling ACC conference game. UNC went on to make it to the NCAA Tournament that year, but were eliminated in the third round.
