2. On January 12, 1888, the infamous "Children's Blizzard" struck Nebraska. Temperatures dropped rapidly, and blizzard conditions developed, leading to the deaths of over 200 schoolchildren across the prairie states.
3. In 1900, the Nebraska state capitol building was completed after ten years of construction. Designed by renowned architect Bertram Goodhue, the building is one of the state's most recognizable landmarks.
4. On January 12, 1910, the Nebraska legislature passed a bill creating the Nebraska Public Service Commission. The commission was tasked with regulating public utilities and transportation, and it still exists today.
