1. In 1956, the Garden State Parkway received a significant funding boost with the passage of the Highway Revenue Bond Act. The legislation authorized the issuance of $500 million in bonds to finance the completion of the parkway and other road projects across New Jersey.

2. On January 13, 1967, the Jersey Shore town of Belmar experienced a devastating fire that destroyed several blocks of homes and businesses along Main Street. The blaze was reportedly caused by a faulty gas line and caused an estimated $4 million in damage.

3. In 1989, Governor Thomas Kean signed the No-Fault Automobile Insurance Act, which established a system of mandatory personal injury protection coverage for drivers in New Jersey. The law aimed to reduce litigation and speed up the settlement process for car accident claims.

4. On January 13, 1995, the New Jersey Devils defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 at the Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford. The victory extended the Devils' winning streak to nine games and helped propel them to a franchise-record 48-win season.

5. In 2016, Winter Storm Jonas brought heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions to much of the East Coast, including New Jersey. Parts of the state received over two feet of snow, causing widespread power outages and travel disruptions. Governor Chris Christie declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard to assist with storm response efforts.
