3) In 1963, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech at Oklahoma City University. King spoke about the struggle for racial justice and encouraged listeners to stand up for their beliefs, even in the face of opposition.

4) In 1986, the Oklahoma-based band The Flaming Lips released their major label debut album, "Hear It Is." The band went on to achieve international success, and is known for their experimental, psychedelic sound.

5) In 2009, the Oklahoma City Thunder played their first game in the city after relocating from Seattle. The team, which features future NBA MVP Kevin Durant, has since become a beloved part of Oklahoma's sports scene.
