3. The historic African American college, Morgan State University, was founded on January 19, 1867, as the Centenary Biblical Institute in Baltimore. It was one of the first schools in the United States to offer higher education for African American students, particularly in the field of theology.
4. In 1937, the Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown opened its doors to the public. This historic theater has hosted performances ranging from vaudeville acts to modern theatrical productions and is a beloved cultural institution in Western Maryland.
5. On January 19, 2003, the Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Florida. This championship victory was the first in the team's history and marked a major milestone for football fans in Maryland. The Ravens defeated the New York Giants 34-7 in what was considered one of the most dominant defensive performances in Super Bowl history.
