1. In 1913, the Utah State Capitol building was officially dedicated. The construction of the building began in 1912 and was completed in 1916. The Capitol building is located in Salt Lake City and serves as the home of the Utah State Legislature and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

2. On January 23, 1989, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced plans to build a new temple in Bountiful, Utah. The Bountiful Utah Temple was completed and dedicated in 1995 and serves as one of the 17 temples located in Utah.

3. In 2014, Governor Gary Herbert signed a bill into law that made Utah the first state to designate an official state firearm. The Browning M1911 pistol was selected as Utah's official state firearm on January 23, 2014.

4. Utah's first state park, Antelope Island State Park, was established on January 23, 1969. The park is located on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake and offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, boating, camping, and wildlife viewing.

5. On January 23, 1990, the Utah Jazz defeated the Orlando Magic 123-110 in the first-ever NBA game played in Japan. The game was part of the NBA's first international tour and was played at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The Jazz would go on to win the Western Conference that season but lost in the NBA finals to the Chicago Bulls.
