1. On January 24, 1815, the Battle of Puehuehu took place in Hawaii. It was the final battle of the Kuamoo Uprising, a conflict between Kamehameha I's forces and those of the traditional Hawaiian religion.

2. In 1895, Queen Liliuokalani, the last monarch of Hawaii, was put on trial at the Palace on charges of abetting a rebellion against the provisional government that had overthrown her six years earlier. She was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment in her own palace.

3. January 24, 1929 marked the first air mail delivery to Hawaii. The plane, flown by Charles Lindbergh, carried mail from San Francisco to Honolulu in a record-breaking 17 hours and 30 minutes.

4. On this day in 1971, Hawaii's Mauna Loa volcano erupted, causing an evacuation of nearby residents and temporarily closing the airport in Hilo.

5. The Hawaii State Capitol was dedicated on January 24, 1969. Designed by architect John Carl Warnecke, the building is known for its unique shape and use of local materials such as coral and lava rock.
