1. In 1848, the first women's medical school in the United States, the Louisville Medical Institute, was established in Kentucky. It offered women the opportunity to study medicine and become doctors at a time when female physicians were quite rare.

2. On January 24, 1862, the Battle of Mill Springs took place in Pulaski and Wayne counties. It was the first significant battle of the Civil War fought in Kentucky and resulted in a Union victory.

3. In 1935, the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, was born in Louisville. Ali would go on to become one of the most iconic figures in sports history, winning three heavyweight boxing championships and earning worldwide fame for his charismatic personality and outspoken activism.

4. On January 24, 1945, the historic Kincaid Towers in downtown Lexington were completed. At the time, they were the tallest buildings in Kentucky and the second-tallest in the southeastern United States.

5. The Kentucky State Capitol building, located in Frankfort, officially opened its doors on January 24, 1910. The grand structure is an iconic symbol of Kentucky's state government and features stunning neoclassical architecture, including a dome that rises to a height of 210 feet.
