1. In 1922, the Delaware State Hospital for the Insane began using the newly discovered insulin treatment for diabetes. This marked a major breakthrough in medical treatment in the state.

2. On January 27, 1931, the Delaware Memorial Bridge Commission was created by the Delaware General Assembly. The commission was tasked with constructing a bridge across the Delaware River and connecting Delaware to New Jersey. The bridge was completed in 1951 and is now a key transportation link for the region.

3. The Wilmington Race Riot of 1968 occurred on January 27, when more than 400 people participated in a riot in the city's black community following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Two people were killed and dozens were injured in the violence.

4. On January 27, 1991, the Delaware Blue Hens football team won the NCAA Division II national championship by defeating the Youngstown State Penguins. The game was played in Florence, Alabama and marked the first national championship for any Delaware athletic team.

This made Delaware one of the first states to legalize sports betting following a Supreme Court ruling that overturned a federal ban on sports gambling. The first legal sports bets in Delaware were placed on June 5, 2018.
