1. In 1813, during the War of 1812, the Battle of Frenchtown took place near present-day Monroe, Michigan. This battle involved American, British, and Native American forces and resulted in a decisive British victory. Many Ohio soldiers were involved in the battle, with over 200 being killed or wounded.

2. In 1887, the Grand River flooding occurred in northeastern Ohio, causing widespread damage and loss of life. The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall and snowmelt, and resulted in the deaths of at least 17 people in the towns of Painesville and Perry.

3. In 1936, the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Statehouse was completed in 1861 and has served as the seat of Ohio's government ever since. It is considered one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in the United States.

4. In 1986, the space shuttle Challenger disaster occurred, killing all seven crew members on board. Among the crew was Ohio astronaut Judy Resnik, who had previously flown on the shuttle Discovery. Resnik was the second American woman to go to space and the first Jewish woman to go to space.

5. In 2018, the Cleveland Indians announced that Chief Wahoo, the controversial mascot that had been associated with the team since the 1940s, would be phased out over the course of the season. The use of the Chief Wahoo logo had been criticized as racist and insensitive. The team now primarily uses a block "C" logo.
