2. The First Ohio Penitentiary Opened on January 6, 1834
The Ohio Penitentiary was Ohio's first state prison, and it opened its doors to prisoners on January 6th, 1834. The prison, which is now closed, operated for more than a century and was located in Columbus, Ohio.
3. Ohio Banned Child Labor on January 6, 1913
One of the most significant events in Ohio history on January 6th was the state's decision to ban child labor. At the time, many children were forced to work in dangerous conditions, often for long hours and with little pay. With the new law, children under the age of 14 were no longer allowed to work in most industries, with a few exceptions.
4. The Ohio State Buckeyes Won the National Football Championship on January 6, 2015
Ohio State's football team won the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against the Oregon Ducks on January 6th, 2015. The Buckeyes won the game 42-20 to claim their eighth national championship in school history.

In 2020, Dayton, Ohio, was recognized as one of the top 10 friendliest cities in America by Big 7 Travel. The city's welcoming atmosphere, vibrant downtown, and excellent food scene were cited as some of the factors that contributed to its ranking. January 6th was the day that the news of this achievement was announced.
