1. In 1863, the Idaho Territory was established. Idaho was originally part of the Washington and Oregon territories, but as more and more people settled in the region, the government felt it necessary to create a separate territory. The Idaho Territory was eventually admitted to the Union as the 43rd state in 1890.

2. On January 9, 1909, a massive fire destroyed much of downtown Boise. The fire started in the Idanha Hotel and quickly spread to neighboring buildings. In total, 27 buildings were destroyed and hundreds of people were left homeless. The fire led to significant changes in building codes and fire safety measures in Boise and beyond.

3. In 1913, the world's largest gold dredge began operating in the Boise Basin. The dredge was over 400 feet long and could process over 9,000 cubic yards of soil per day. Although the dredge only operated for a few years, it was a major source of gold in the area.

4. On January 9, 1933, the Idaho State Capitol building was completed. The building is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Idaho and is home to the state's legislative and executive branches. The Capitol Building underwent a major renovation in the early 2000s to modernize its infrastructure and preserve its historic elements.

5. In 2005, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced the successful completion of a groundbreaking hydrogen fuel experiment. The experiment demonstrated that hydrogen fuel could be produced from nuclear energy and that the resulting hydrogen could power vehicles without producing harmful emissions. The INL continues to be a leader in nuclear energy research and development.
