1. On July 10, 1880, the first state fair was held in Hutchinson, Kansas. This fair featured livestock exhibits, agricultural displays, and entertainment for visitors. Today, the Kansas State Fair is still held annually in Hutchinson and draws hundreds of thousands of attendees.

2. In 1866, Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians attacked a stagecoach near the town of Ellsworth, Kansas. This event, known as the Battle of the Saline River, resulted in the deaths of several people and marked one of the last major conflicts between Native Americans and settlers in Kansas.

3. On July 10, 1925, the Scopes Monkey Trial began in Dayton, Tennessee. While this event did not take place in Kansas, it had a significant impact on the state's history as it sparked a larger debate over the teaching of evolution in schools, culminating in the infamous Kansas Evolution Hearings of 2005.

4. In 1900, the first Carnegie Library in Kansas was opened in the town of Winfield. Funded by industrialist Andrew Carnegie, these libraries were designed to bring free access to books and knowledge to communities across the country. Today, many of these libraries are still in operation, including several in Kansas.

5. On July 10, 1951, the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto, Kansas was established as a manufacturing site for military explosives. During its operation, the plant produced over 260 million pounds of high explosives and employed thousands of workers. Today, the site is undergoing extensive cleanup and restoration efforts.
