1. In 1796, Tennessee became the 16th state of the United States. On July 11 of that year, statehood was officially granted, making Tennessee the first state to be created out of federal territory.

2. On July 11, 1862, the Battle of Murfreesboro began during the American Civil War. The battle lasted for five days and resulted in a Confederate victory. It was one of the bloodiest battles of the war, with over 23,000 casualties.

3. In 1933, Jackson Day was established as a state holiday in Tennessee. It is celebrated on the second Saturday in January and commemorates Andrew Jackson, a former president and hero of the Battle of New Orleans.

4. On July 11, 1979, Skylab, the first space station launched and operated by NASA, broke up over the Pacific Ocean and scattered debris across the western coast of Australia. One of the largest pieces to fall to Earth, weighing nearly 80 tons, landed near the small town of Balladonia, Western Australia.

5. In 1985, the first Farm Aid concert was held in Champaign, Illinois, organized by musician Willie Nelson, with the aim of raising funds for struggling family farmers. The benefit concert series continued for many years, with several concerts held in Tennessee, including Nashville in 1995 and 2001.
