1. In 1908, the Milwaukee Road Railroad opened its new steel bridge across the Wisconsin River in Portage. The bridge was 2,701 feet long and was the largest steel bridge on the Milwaukee Road at the time.
2. In 1928, the Milwaukee Braves baseball team played their first game at Borchert Field in Milwaukee. The team eventually moved to Atlanta in 1966.
3. In 1945, the SS Pere Marquette 18, a car ferry, sank in Lake Michigan during a severe storm. Only five of the 29 crew members survived.
4. In 1987, a tornado swept through the town of Black River Falls in western Wisconsin, causing significant damage to buildings and trees. The tornado was rated as an F3 on the Fujita scale.
5. In 2010, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Corey Hart hit three home runs in a game against the Washington Nationals, becoming the first Brewer to accomplish the feat since 2007.
