1. Wisconsin State Capitol was dedicated on July 14, 1917
On July 14, 1917, the grand dedication ceremony of the Wisconsin State Capitol took place. The magnificent Capitol building located in Madison, Wisconsin, had taken over 11 years to be built and was designed by George B. Post and Company in collaboration with the famous Wisconsin architect, Henry C. Koch.
2. The first public performance of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
On July 14, 1954, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra gave its very first public performance. The Orchestra was founded in 1953 by the Milwaukee Civic Music Association and made its debut at the Pabst Theater, under the baton of its first music director, Kenneth Schermerhorn.
3. Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame was established
On July 14, 1966, the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame was established at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena. The Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history and legacy of the Green Bay Packers football team.
4. First airplane flight in Wisconsin
On July 14, 1910, Charles K. Hamilton made the first airplane flight in Wisconsin. Hamilton flew an airplane designed by Glenn Curtiss over the Kenosha Racetrack in front of a crowd of around 20,000 people.
5. Marquette and Joliet reach the Mississippi River
On July 14, 1673, European explorers Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet reached the Mississippi River. They had been exploring the upper Mississippi River and were the first Europeans to make such a journey.
