1. In 1867, Wyoming's first territorial governor, John A. Campbell, arrived in the territory. Campbell played a significant role in shaping Wyoming's early territorial government and establishing the University of Wyoming.

2. In 1890, Wyoming was admitted as the 44th state in the Union. The process to achieve statehood was long and arduous, but Wyoming's status as the first state to grant women the right to vote helped to push it over the edge.

3. In 1904, the first Cheyenne Frontier Days began. The annual event, which still takes place each July, celebrates Wyoming's cowboy heritage with a variety of rodeo events, parades, and other festivities.

4. In 1938, Amelia Earhart disappeared during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe. Her last known radio communication came from somewhere over the Pacific Ocean, and her disappearance remains one of aviation's greatest mysteries.

5. In 1984, the worst flood in Wyoming's history struck. The Big Horn River overflowed its banks, causing widespread damage and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents. Despite the disaster, Wyoming's spirit of resilience and cooperation shone through as communities came together to support one another in the aftermath of the flood.
