1. Idaho Became a State

On July 21, 1890, Idaho became the 43rd state of the United States. After a long and tumultuous process of gaining statehood, residents of Idaho finally achieved their goal and were able to elect their own state representatives.

2. The Birth of the Idaho National Guard

On July 21, 1889, the Idaho National Guard was born. The National Guard is a reserve military force that is often called upon by the federal government to assist in national security and emergency response efforts.

3. The Boise Rescue Mission Was Established

On July 21, 1958, the Boise Rescue Mission was established to help homeless and disadvantaged people in the Boise area. The organization has since grown to include several shelters and programs, providing a wide range of services to those in need.

4. The Sun Valley Opera House Opened

On July 21, 1937, the Sun Valley Opera House opened its doors in Sun Valley, Idaho. Designed by the famous architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood, the theater quickly became a popular destination for residents and visitors alike.

5. The Snake River Was Explored by European Settlers

On July 21, 1811, the Snake River was explored by European settlers for the first time. Led by explorer Wilson Price Hunt, the expedition made its way across Idaho and became the first documented group of non-natives to traverse the entire length of the Snake River.
