1. In 1865, the Powder River Indian War began in Wyoming. The conflict lasted until 1868 and involved multiple Native American tribes and the United States Army.

2. Famous outlaw Butch Cassidy was born in Beaver, Utah, on July 26, 1866. While not originally from Wyoming, Cassidy and his outlaw gang, the Wild Bunch, frequently operated in the state.

3. In 1923, the first edition of the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo took place in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The event has since become one of the largest outdoor rodeos in the world and draws participants and spectators from around the globe.

4. On July 26, 1958, Wyoming native and University of Wyoming graduate Cathy O'Donnell became the first woman to win a horse race at Saratoga Springs, New York.

5. In 2010, a massive wildfire known as the Little Venus Fire started on July 26 near Casper, Wyoming. The fire burned over 22,000 acres and required the efforts of over 400 firefighters to extinguish.
