1. On July 29, 1858, gold was discovered along the South Platte River in what is now Jefferson County, Colorado. This discovery led to the Colorado Gold Rush and the founding of numerous mining towns throughout the state.

2. In 1903, the state of Colorado established its first official weather station in Denver. The station recorded temperatures, precipitation, and other weather data that helped farmers, ranchers, and other residents of the state prepare for storms and other weather events.

3. On July 29, 1919, the Great Steel Strike began in Colorado. Thousands of workers, including miners and steelworkers, went on strike to protest low wages and dangerous working conditions. The strike lasted for several months and resulted in violence and deaths before it was finally resolved.

4. In 1963, the Colorado State Capitol building was officially dedicated by Governor John A. Love. The building, which was designed by architect Elijah E. Myers, features a distinctive gold dome and serves as the home of the state legislature and other government offices.

5. On July 29, 1998, the city of Denver hosted the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Coors Field. The game, which featured many of the sport's top players, was a huge success and helped to showcase Denver's vibrant sports culture and beautiful scenery to a national audience.
