On July 3, 1863, the New York Draft Riots erupted into violence. Although the violence started in New York City, it eventually spread to other cities, including Detroit. The riots were in response to a new draft law, which required men to sign up for military service. Many of those who were being drafted were poor, and the draft law was seen as unfairly targeting the working class.

2. The Ford Motor Company is established

On July 3, 1903, the Ford Motor Company was established in Detroit, Michigan. The company was founded by Henry Ford, and it went on to become one of the largest and most successful automobile companies in the world.

3. The Edsel is introduced

July 3, 1835, is an important day in Michigan history because it was the day that Michigan officially became a state. At the time, Michigan was the 26th state to be admitted to the Union.

5. Detroit celebrates Independence Day

On July 3, 1929, the city of Detroit celebrated Independence Day by holding a massive fireworks display. It was one of the largest fireworks displays in the country at the time, and it helped to establish Detroit as one of the premier cities for Fourth of July celebrations in the United States.
