1. On July 30, 1932, North Carolina native and country music legend, Charlie Daniels, was born in Wilmington. He went on to have a successful career, earning multiple Grammy Awards and being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

2. July 30, 1953, marked the launch of the USS North Carolina, a battleship named after the state. The ship served in the Pacific theater during World War II and is now preserved as a museum in Wilmington.

3. In 1976, the state of North Carolina adopted the red wolf as its official state mammal on July 30th. The red wolf was once native to the state but had become extinct in the wild by the late 20th century. Efforts have been made to reintroduce the species to the state.

4. On July 30, 1995, former UNC basketball player and NBA star Michael Jordan announced his return to the NBA after a brief stint playing professional baseball. He rejoined the Chicago Bulls and helped lead them to three more NBA championships.

5. July 30, 2010, marked the opening of the Global TransPark, a transportation and manufacturing hub in Kinston, North Carolina. The facility includes an airport, rail access, and industrial areas for businesses to operate in.
