1. In 1814, the Battle of Burlington took place on July 6 during the War of 1812. British forces sailed on Lake Champlain from Canada to attack American forces stationed in the city of Burlington. The American forces were able to repel the attack.

2. On July 6, 1865, the University of Vermont was granted a charter by the Vermont State Legislature. The university had been founded in 1791, but it was not officially recognized by the state until this date.
