3. Louisiana was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, but it was on June 1, 2006, that the National Guard officially completed their mission to restore law and order in the aftermath of the storm.

4. In 1933, the first permanent Louisiana State Capitol building was completed in Baton Rouge after construction began in 1929. The building continues to serve as the seat of Louisiana's government to this day.
