4. Wildfire: On June 1, 2002, the Hay Meadow Fire broke out in the Little Missouri National Grassland in North Dakota. The wildfire burned more than 20,000 acres and was made worse by drought conditions and high winds.

5. State Capitol fire: On June 1, 1930, a fire broke out at the North Dakota State Capitol building in Bismarck. The fire destroyed the dome, which had to be replaced with a new design. The building was restored and still serves as the state capitol today.
