2. On June 10, 1864, during the Civil War, Union General William T. Sherman advanced his troops to the outskirts of Marietta, Georgia, to start the Atlanta Campaign. The campaign ended with the capture of Atlanta on September 2, 1864.

3. In 1912, the first flight of an airplane in Georgia took place at the State Fairgrounds in Macon. The pilot, Tony Jannus, flew a biplane for 15 minutes, covering a distance of five miles.

4. On June 10, 1924, the Georgia Tech campus was rocked by a series of explosions during a chemistry experiment. The explosions destroyed the chemistry building and caused damage to other buildings on campus. Miraculously, no one was killed in the incident.

5. In 1982, the song "Georgia On My Mind" was named the official state song of Georgia. The song, written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell, has been performed by numerous artists over the years and is a beloved tribute to the state of Georgia.
