2. In 1944, the first V-1 "buzz bomb" hit Indiana, near Griffith. This was the first time Nazi Germany had used this type of weapon against the United States.

3. In 1950, the town of Gary, Indiana was hit by a catastrophic flood. The flood caused extensive damage to the city and resulted in 38 deaths.

4. In 1963, one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in Indiana history occurred. It was estimated that the outbreak resulted in 47 deaths across the state.

5. In 2008, a tornado outbreak swept across Indiana, causing extensive damage and resulting in 22 deaths. The EF2-rated tornado that hit the town of Muncie was the strongest tornado to hit the city since records began in 1950.
