1. In 1836, the Arkansas Gazette published an article about the discovery of diamonds in Pike County. This was the first recorded discovery of diamonds in the United States.

2. In 1883, the Arkansas State Capitol building was completed after 16 years of construction. The building, located in Little Rock, is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

3. In 1904, the Arkansas Post Office and Courthouse building was completed in Little Rock. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and served as the headquarters for the Western District of Arkansas until 1936.

4. In 1942, Camp Chaffee was established near Fort Smith as a training facility for World War II soldiers. The camp later became Fort Chaffee and has been used for various military purposes, including housing refugees from Vietnam and Cuba.

5. In 1991, the Arkansas River reached a record high level of 42.6 feet in Little Rock due to heavy rainfall. This caused severe flooding in the area, resulting in millions of dollars in damages and several fatalities.
