1. In 1774, after Governor Dunmore dispatched an expeditionary force of 3,000 men to the Ohio Valley to assert Virginia's claims to the area, the Battle of Point Pleasant took place on June 16. Although this battle took place in present-day West Virginia, many Kentuckians fought on the Virginia side, including famed frontiersman Daniel Boone.
