2. On June 17, 1925, the town of Meeteetse experienced a catastrophic flood. Heavy rainfall caused the Greybull River to overflow its banks, destroying homes, businesses, and bridges. At least six people lost their lives in the disaster.
3. In 1949, the first college football game was played under lights in Wyoming. The University of Wyoming hosted Hardin-Simmons University, and the Cowboys came out on top with a score of 19-6.
4. On June 17, 1957, the first commercially successful uranium mine in Wyoming began production. The Split Rock Mine, located near Jeffrey City, went on to produce over 1 million pounds of uranium before it closed in 1963.
5. In 2010, a massive hailstorm hit the city of Cheyenne, causing millions of dollars in damage. The storm, which produced hailstones the size of baseballs, shattered car windows and left dents in roofs and siding throughout the city.
