2. First Sardine Cannery: On June 19, 1875, the first sardine cannery in the United States was opened in Eastport, Maine. The cannery, owned by William Patten, was called the Eagle Sardine Company and was the first of many that would come to dominate the sardine industry in Maine.

Maine's First Female Governor: On June 19, 2018, Janet Mills won the Democratic primary for governor of Maine, becoming the first female candidate from a major party to win a gubernatorial primary in Maine. Later that year, in November, Mills won the general election, becoming Maine's first female governor.

4. Maine Windsurfing Pioneer: On June 19, 1983, windsurfing pioneer Doug Drown set a new world speed record on Casco Bay, off the coast of Portland, Maine. Drown, who had been windsurfing since the 1970s, reached a top speed of 35.2 knots (about 40 miles per hour) in a competition sponsored by the American Windsurfing Industries Association.

5. First Transatlantic Flight: On June 19, 1919, a U.S. Navy flying boat called the NC-4 completed the first transatlantic flight by an aircraft. The NC-4, piloted by Commander Albert Cushing Read, left Trepassey, Newfoundland and Labrador on May 16, 1919, and arrived in Plymouth, England on May 31, after making several stops along the way. The flight took a total of 23 days and covered a distance of over 3,000 miles.
