4. On June 21, 1977, a deadly flash flood swept through Louisville and its surrounding areas, killing 27 people and causing widespread damage. The flood resulted from a severe thunderstorm that dropped over 8 inches of rain in just a few hours.

5. In 2000, Kentucky's state motto "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" was added to the official state seal. The motto, which originated during the Revolutionary War, emphasizes the importance of working together in the face of adversity.
