1. On June 24, 1867, a devastating flood swept through the city of Helena. The flood, caused by heavy rains and melting snow, destroyed numerous buildings and homes, and claimed the lives of at least eight people.

2. In 1908, on this day, the state of Montana established its first public park - the Bannack State Park. Located near the historic gold mining town of Bannack, the park is spread over 1,500 acres and features hiking trails, camping facilities, and picnic areas.

3. On June 24, 1938, the Anaconda Copper Mining Company - one of the largest mining companies in the world at the time - was indicted by a federal grand jury for violating antitrust laws. The company was found guilty and was ordered to divest itself of several operations, which eventually led to its demise.

4. In 1948, a US Navy plane crashed near the town of Otter Creek, Montana, killing all 10 crew members on board. The crash site was discovered several days later, and a memorial now stands at the location to honor the fallen servicemen.

5. On June 24, 2004, Montana's famed trout streams were threatened by a massive wildfire that consumed over 90,000 acres of land. The fire, which was started by lightning, took several weeks to contain and resulted in the closure of several popular fishing areas. However, due to the quick action of firefighting crews, many of the streams and their fish populations were saved.
