1. Indian Peak Massacre: On June 26, 1865, a group of Ute warriors attacked a party of settlers in what became known as the Indian Peak Massacre. The incident occurred near present-day Delta, Utah and resulted in the deaths of seven men and one woman.

2. Statehood Day: June 26 is also recognized as Statehood Day in Utah because it was on this day in 1894 that the territory of Utah was admitted as the 45th state of the United States. To celebrate, many Utahns participate in parades, fireworks, and other festivities.

3. Jim Bridger's Birthday: Legendary mountain man and fur trader Jim Bridger was born on June 26, 1804, in Richmond, Virginia. Over the course of his life, Bridger explored and mapped much of the American West, including parts of present-day Utah.

4. The First Mormon Pioneer Company Arrives: On June 26, 1847, the first Mormon Pioneer company, led by Brigham Young, arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. This marked the end of a long and difficult journey across the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains and the beginning of a new Mormon settlement in Utah.

5. Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper Mine Landslide: On June 26, 2013, a massive landslide occurred at the Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper Mine, located southwest of Salt Lake City. The slide destroyed a large portion of the mine and forced the evacuation of 2,500 employees. No one was injured in the incident.
