1. On June 30, 1947, Chuck Yeager, a native of Myra, West Virginia, made history by becoming the first pilot to break the sound barrier. Yeager was flying the Bell X-1 aircraft over the Mojave Desert in California at the time of the achievement, which marked a major milestone in aviation history.

2. The Battle of Harpers Ferry took place on June 30, 1861, during the American Civil War. Union forces under General Joseph Hooker attempted to retake the town from Confederate forces under Stonewall Jackson, but were ultimately unsuccessful. The battle resulted in significant casualties on both sides.

3. In 1831, a group of enslaved people led by Nat Turner launched a rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia.
