1. On June 6, 1928, a devastating tornado tore through the town of Amagon, Arkansas, killing 15 people and injuring many more. The tornado remains one of the deadliest in Arkansas history.
2. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper was first published on June 6, 1991, after the Arkansas Gazette, the state's oldest newspaper, ceased publication.
3. On June 6, 1944, a group of Arkansas soldiers landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. The soldiers were part of the 116th Infantry Regiment, which suffered heavy casualties during the operation.
