1. On June 6, 1915, the Wisconsin State Capitol building was officially dedicated in Madison. The capitol was designed by George B. Post and modeled after the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. It remains a prominent feature of the Madison skyline and a symbol of Wisconsin government.

2. Milwaukee native and former NFL player Donald Driver was born on June 6, 1975. Driver played wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers from 1999 to 2012 and helped lead the team to victory in Super Bowl XLV.

3. On June 6, 1889, the town of South Milwaukee was incorporated. Located along the shores of Lake Michigan, South Milwaukee was originally settled by French explorers and fur traders in the early 19th century. Today, it is home to more than 20,000 residents.

4. One of Wisconsin's most notable environmental disasters occurred on June 6, 1994, when a train carrying propane and chlorine collided with another train in the town of Slinger. The resulting explosion and chemical release caused a fire and forced thousands of area residents to evacuate. Miraculously, no one was killed in the accident.

5. On June 6, 1944, Wisconsin soldiers played a significant role in the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. Among the first wave of troops to hit the beach was the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division, which included many soldiers from Wisconsin. The troops faced heavy enemy fire and suffered many casualties, but their bravery helped pave the way for the eventual Allied victory.
