1. In 1873, the city of Duluth was incorporated. Today, it is the fourth largest city in the state and a major hub for shipping and tourism.

2. On June 9, 1915, the famous author and environmentalist Sigurd F. Olson was born in Chicago, Illinois. He spent much of his life promoting the conservation of wilderness areas, including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota.

3. In 1939, the Minnesota State Fair Association was officially incorporated. The State Fair is one of the largest and most popular events in the state, drawing millions of visitors every year.

4. On June 9, 1971, the Minnesota Twins played their first game at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota. The team won the game 5-4 in 12 innings against the Washington Senators.

5. In 2017, Minnesota governor Mark Dayton signed a bill legalizing the use of fireworks in the state. The law went into effect just in time for the Fourth of July holiday.
