1. In 1877, the first issue of The Atchison Daily Globe was published in Atchison, Kansas. The paper still exists today as The Atchison Globe and is the oldest newspaper in Kansas.

2. March 10, 1939, was a historic day for the aviation industry in Kansas. Amelia Earhart, the famous aviator and Kansas native, was honored posthumously when the Amelia Earhart Airport was dedicated in Atchison.

3. In 1954, the Kansas City Royals baseball team made their debut in the American League and played their first exhibition game against the Milwaukee Braves in Miami, Florida on March 10. This marked the beginning of a new era in Kansas City sports.

4. On March 10, 1966, the Kansas Senate joined the House in approving a bill establishing the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. The school has since become one of the top medical schools in the country.

5. The Kansas City metropolitan area was hit with a major snowstorm on March 10, 1973, causing widespread power outages and traffic accidents. The storm dumped over a foot of snow in some areas and caused a state emergency to be declared.
