1. On March 10, 1912, New Mexico became the 47th state of the United States. This was after 62 years of being a territory of the United States.
2. March 10, 1946, marked the founding of the town of Los Alamos in New Mexico. It was established as a secret research facility for the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bomb during World War II.
3. In 2018, on March 10, Spaceport America in New Mexico conducted its first commercial launch of a rocket. The rocket, called the "Unity 22" was launched by the company Virgin Galactic.
4. On March 10, 1866, the Battle of Picacho Pass occurred in southern Arizona, just miles from the New Mexico border. It was the westernmost battle of the Civil War, and Union soldiers defeated Confederate soldiers in the skirmish.
5. March 10, 1846, marked the beginning of the Mexican-American War. A detachment of U.S. soldiers under the command of Captain Seth Thornton encountered Mexican troops in the disputed territory between the Rio Grande and the Nueces River, ultimately leading to a declaration of war.
