1. In 1913, the Women's Suffrage Parade took place on March 3, but due to violence and arrests, it ended up spilling over into March 11. Thousands marched from the U.S. Capitol to the White House in support of women's right to vote.
2. On March 11, 1842, a major fire erupted in the city, destroying much of the business district. The fire consumed more than 400 buildings before burning itself out.
3. In 1965, the District of Columbia was granted the right to vote for President of the United States with the ratification of the 23rd Amendment. March 11 marks the date when the amendment was passed by Congress in 1960.
