1. In 1865, the Nevada State Legislature passed a resolution to ratify the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which abolished slavery and involuntary servitude.
2. In 1875, Nevada Governor Lewis R. Bradley signed a bill granting women the right to practice law in the state. This made Nevada the first state in the United States to allow female lawyers.
3. In 1900, the state of Nevada enacted a new constitution that required all newly elected state officials to take an oath to support the United States Constitution and the Nevada Constitution. The previous constitution did not have this requirement.
4. In 1954, the United States Air Force announced plans to build a new testing range on the Nevada Test Site. This range, known as the Nellis Range, is still in operation today and is used for testing new aircraft and weapons systems.
5. In 2013, the Nevada State Legislature passed a bill that allowed same-sex couples to marry. The bill was signed into law by Governor Brian Sandoval and made Nevada the 17th state in the United States to legalize same-sex marriage.
