3. In 1936, The Sioux Falls Municipal Band played their first concert of the year on March 16th, marking the beginning of their 60th season of concerts.

4. On March 16, 2000, South Dakota Governor Bill Janklow signed a bill into law making it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to use a tanning bed, becoming the first state in the nation to do so.

5. In 1902, pioneering aviator Birdseye B. Lewis made the first recorded flight in South Dakota history on March 16th. He flew a balloon from the city of Elk Point to the town of Akron, Iowa, thirty-six miles away.
